Language Learning Tasks

Play dough letters sounds
Focus letter would be made out of modeling clay (preferably one that hardens).  The children would feel the letters and find the pictures that begin with the letter sounds.  After, the letters would be placed in a container.  One child is blindfolded and the other child chooses a letter to give to that child.  They must guess what letter they are feeling.  After, the roles are reversed.

This activity is done between two children, one of which has pictures of farm animals with their names.  The second child has the same pictures of farm animal, but without their names.
The first child read the name of an animal, and asks second child to pass him the picture of the animal that match with name. Then second child ask first one if the picture is right or not.

Finger Puppets, Retelling Stories

Students use finger puppets to represent different characters in a story.  Finger puppets can also be used as the narrator who tells the story.  The child moves the finger puppet to role-play the actions of specific characters.  Children who are reluctant to speak in front of others will often use their voice to deliver lines because it is actually the story character that is speaking and not themselves.

Play Dough Snake Letters

Students roll play dough ‘snakes’ between their fingers.  Sections of these snakes are then formed into upper and lower case matching letters.  A different colour is used to make the upper case letters than is used for the lower case letters.  Letters are displayed side by side on a tray.  Laminated models of the upper and lower case letters can be provided for the students.

Real & Imaginary – Match

Students work independently trying to decide whether an image a card represents a real or imaginary thing.  Laminated cards with pictures of animals, people, and inanimate objects are used. There is matching picture of a real thing for each imaginary thing.  A header card provides both the heading in either Arabic or English and a sample picture of an imaginary duck and a real duck. The student browses through the cards until a match of a real and an imaginary thing are found.  The matching pair is then placed beside each other under the appropriate heading. The activity can be used either on a table or on the floor.  While there are eighteen matching things a subset of these can be used for students beginning this activity.

Short phonics if the letters

After children learned the letter formation; they start to read the letters. This activity helps child to know the correct pronounce of the words. With this activity there are objects that have different pronounced for the same letter. Therefore; child will take the object or picture and will put it in the correct place and will pronounce the phonic of the letter.
